The line of succession is a key theme in House of the Dragon and is very important in the world of Westeros. Daemon believes himself to be the rightful and lawful heir to the Iron Throne. When he is removed as heir by his brother King Viserys I, he does all he can to cause issues and disarray. While there’s clearly an imbalance of power between Rhaenyra and her much older uncle, there’s also an imbalance between Princess Rhaenyra and Criston Cole, who has sworn to serve and protect her. In this scene, Criston violates his vow of chastity by sleeping with Rhaenyra.

While episode 4 “King of the Narrow Sea” features Rhaenyra reconciling with Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey/Olivia Cooke), her best-friend-turned-step-mom, this reforged friendship won’t last. Daemon’s time as a war strategist alongside the Velaryon fleet during the conflict with the Crabfeeder means he’ll likely take a primary role in the Dance of the Dragons. By leading the charge against Alicent, Daemon is guaranteed to become a dangerous opponent for the greens during the upcoming civil war. The blacks’ push for allies across Westeros means Daemon may be leading armies from several Houses into battle, something viewers haven’t seen yet but could see come to fruition soon. Given his harsh history, it’s not surprising to learn that Daemon was angry enough about Viserys keeping the Song of Ice and Fire from him that he would hurt Rhaenyra.

And when he learns of his brother’s death in "The Black Queen," his first question is how did he die? From this point on, he is convinced that Alicent and Otto Hightower killed Viserys, and is ready to seek out revenge. By the end of episode seven, Daemon and Rhaenyra are fully aligned as allies and lovers. Together, they find a way to fake Laenor’s death so he can run away with his lover while they get married. Clothes are pulled off with surprising tenderness as they stare into each other’s eyes and begin to do the nasty. But it’s not nasty, not like most of the other sex scenes depicted so far in this show.

To say that King Viserys I is pissed at his brother and daughter when he finds out about their nuptials is the understatement of the century. However, Daemon and Rhaenyra continue to live their unbothered, incestuous lives, having children in the process. On Aegon’s trip to Essos, Aegon the Younger loses his brother, Viserys when the Triarchy fleet attacked their ship. During the riots in King’s Landing, Aegon the Younger witnesses Joffrey and Syrax’s death from the Red Keep’s roof. Yet, the event that scarred Aegon the Younger for life was Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, his mother, being burned alive and eaten by Aegon the Elder’s dragon, Sunfyre.

She tries to kiss him again and again and finally he angrily breaks it off. I don’t know about you, but the way the scene in the pleasure house is shot feels purposely ambiguous. It’s so dimly lit, it makes the battle scene in “The Long Night” feel bright.

Back then a princess’s virtue was to be remain unspoiled by even the mere suggestion of sex, assuming a broad historical parity with the real world. Still, that’s what happens in episode four of House of the Dragon. Both sides have a point, but both sides utterly fail to grasp the gravity of what’s happening right before our eyes.

House of the Dragon Episode 4: Did Rhaenyra and Daemon Have Sex in the Brothel?

In George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood book, Princess Rhaenyra arguably has one of the most interesting storylines in Targaryen history. Yet, with his notoriously unpredictable brother, Prince Daemon , as his placeholder heir and with his wife, Queen Aemma , and Baelon’s death, Viserys’ desperation forces his hand to name Rhaenyra as Princess of Dragonstone. Ever since the beginning of the series, it was already clear that Daemon was Rhaenyra’s uncle because he was the younger brother of her uncle. Nevertheless, knowing that Targaryens never frowned upon incest, both of them were already interested in one another from the very start, as Daemon and Rhaenyra always had some sort of sexual tension between them.

However, both Laenor and Laena die in 120 AC, leading Daemon and Rhaenyra to marry within six months of their spouses’ deaths. Daemon and Rhaenyra will presumably get married some time after the House of the Dragon ten year time jump, at which point Emma D’Arcy will have taken over the role of the Princess from Milly Alcock. House of the Dragon episode 4’s sex scenes cleverly cut between Daemon and Rhaenyra and Viserys and Alicent, emphasizing that one couple is enjoying sex for pleasure while the other engages in it for duty. However, while Daemon kisses and undresses Rhaenyra, he abruptly begins rejecting her affection and abandons her in the brothel. Since Daemon removed Rhaenyra’s hat to reveal her silver hair, a boy employed by Mysaria spots her when calling out to Daemon, with the news quickly making its way to Otto Hightower. While Daemon and Rhaenyra never actually slept together , the now banished Daemon Targaryen refuses to disprove the accusation.

Back then, their incest-y meet and greet raised questions and eyebrows alike, but now, episode seven officially makes #Daemyra canon when the pair finally bump uglies in the night. Okay, our screen was pretty dark during that scene, but we’re still confident that uncle and niece did a horizontal dance in the sand. On the other hand, Rhaenyra was eventually captured by Aegon II’s forces and was fed to Sunfyre. The marriage between Rhaenyra and Daemon allowed their forces to unite against Aegon II’s own forces during the Dance of the Dragons. And this relationship was already hinted at by the series at the very beginning when Daemon and Rhaenyra had a somewhat affectionate moment during the prince’s introduction. In the book, Rhaenyra does indeed marry Laenor, as that might be what will happen in the very next episode.

When Gene’s not thinking about non-existent beings, she is a self-taught barista who loves brewing coffee to keep herself sane. Despite coming to the bitter conclusion that coffee won’t solve her existential crises, at least being caffeinated makes the mundane more bearable. Gene has six Shih Tzus – Simba, Mulan, Pressy, Macky, Pepper, and Morgan. They are the reason she has no space in her bed and the reason for the fur balls under it. By the end of episode 7, the pair tie the knot but fans have been left with questions about their marriage and whether Daemon and Rhaenyra will go on to have any children. After the scene with Otto, Rhaenyra continues to exercise caution, saying that her father told her that when dragons flew to war, everything burned.
